Hodijah Baylies signed proof of American citizenship document signed for (later NY Assemblyman, NY Senator, US Congressman and Militia Major General) Samuel Gilbert Hathaway while Baylies was Collector of the Dighton District.  Document dated and signed December 3, 1801. 

Lieutenant Colonel Hodijah Baylies served in the American Revolution as Aide de Camp to both General George Washington (1782-83) & Major General Benjamin Lincoln (1777-82).

Samuel Gilbert Hathaway (1780-1867),  Hathaway served as a New York State Assemblyman in 1814 & 1818, NY State Senator in 1823, Major General in the New York Militia, 1823-1858 and as a U.S. Representative from New York in Congress 1833-1835.  

Document has been glue-mounted to ruled paper, shown in photo of backside, spotting to front as pictured.
