Free franked cover while Joseph Casey was a member of Congress 1849-1851 as member of Whig party from Pennsylvania. President Lincoln appointed Casey to the Court of Claims on May 23, 1861, confirmed by US Senate in July. In March, 1863 he was nominated again by President Lincoln to be the Chief Justice of the United States Court of Claims. He held that position until his resignation in 1870. appointee, named Court of Claims Chief Justice in 1863. The Court of Claims was abolished in 1982. Only cover of envelope is present, no contents.
