August 28, 1813, DeWitt Clinton Signed Funds for New Alms House, document signed as Mayor of New York City, watermarked, on laid, nicely watermarked paper (additional photos included here to show watermark consistent with others from this office). Reverse endorsed by Richard Furman. Also signed by (Major General) Jacob Morton* as Clerk for the New York Common Council and Thomas R. Mercein as City Comptroller (later President of New York Equitable Fire Insurance Company . Condition, please note cancellation slicing marks as seen in the accompanying photos.
*Morton served as New York City Comptroller from 1807 to 1808. Morton was also later clerk for the New York City Common Council. Morton was the marshal for the First inauguration of George Washington. When it was found that no bible was available, Morton retrieved the Lodge Bible from St. John's Lodge where he was the Worshipful Master. As Major-General, Morton led the New York Militia during the War of 1812.
