NY Sons of Liberty leader, French & Indian War and Revolutionary War officer and NYC Mayor Marinus Willett (1740–1830) in his regimental uniform wearing the sword presented to him by Congress in honor of his actions against the British in 1777 at Fort Stanwix, New York.

Painted by Ralph Earl circa 1791, the three Native Americans in the distance purportedly allude to Willett’s role in the negotiation of the 1790 Treaty of New York with representatives of the Creek and Seminole Nations.
